voices of district 4
Dreams build communities—and I want to hear your dreams so that we can make them realities. As the heart of Hamilton County, District 4 contains historic neighborhoods filled with passionate people. Here are some of the people I have met so far:
A woman who has lived in Glass Farm for 47 years and makes you immediately feel like you are her family. She spends her time making her neighborhood a place where no one is a stranger. She turns noise disturbances on a weeknight into opportunities for connection.
A man who has lived in Highland Park for 50 years and answers the door cheerfully. He believes in young people but worries that his modest retirement will push him out of his neighborhood.
A young man renovating his father’s house himself (beautifully, by the way). He grew up in Chattanooga. He loves watching his children play in newly built green spaces. He worries green spaces will be sacrificed, leaving his family without space to breathe.
A woman with a newborn on her shoulder. She believes so strongly in the political process that she opened her door to a stranger and filled out the paperwork with one hand. Her yard has various toys from her other children.
A woman who has lived in Ridgedale for over 40 years and expressed frustration with not knowing who to talk to about what. She is tired of out-of-neighborhood developers that have displaced her friends. She has a heart for her community and is nervous what will change while she lives on a fixed income. She is willing to show up and speak up for her neighbors.
A young man with a paintbrush in hand that moved into the neighborhood because he loved being surrounded by the music of the diverse population. He paints on his porch and is inspired by others.
A couple hoping to start a family soon. They were thrilled at being able to walk to restaurants and make friends with their neighbors. They feel safe in the diversity of the neighborhood and not alone in their culture.
A man who loved the neighborhood so much, he built a house so that his growing family could stay in the place they fell in love with.
A single mom that started a business because she felt so supported by her neighbors when she casually baked for a party.
These people built Hamilton County and make it the vibrant place it is today. They are the foundation of my platform.
