 FAQs

  • County Commissioners direct your tax dollars. These committees are a window into some specific responsibilities.

“Unlike city governments, the County Commission doesn’t pass laws. Instead, commissioners vote on resolutions that often involve distributing funds, approving contracts, or hiring employees. They also set the rate for the county-wide property tax, a key source of school funding.”

  • I have these moments where I ask myself, “Hey you’ve had a lot to say on this topic. Are you walking your talk?”

The way I see it, you either get involved or someone is gonna involve you. I decided to run because I was tired of not being heard. I felt frustrated to be represented by someone who told me RE: Plan Hamilton that in order for my voice to matter, I need to buy all the property that will affect my life. No one else was willing to run, so under the belief that as someone who does own a home in district 4, maybe I’d take that advice, but make it not true.

For days after I pulled papers I would wake up at 3AM and be like, "Ahhh what am I doing?!"

However, people in my community were genuinely excited when I told them I was running for county commission. I realized they believed in me because they could see I cared. Seeing their hope made me feel the weight of responsibility to do things right, but also confident that together we'd make district 4 better.

Because in my district 4, community is what matters most, not just a few who can buy up all the land.

  • Politics and money seem to always be intertwined. I want to run a campaign that asks, “What if that wasn’t the case?”

My campaign is not accepting financial donations because I do not want to be beholden to big donors. I want to advocate for my community with no price tag attached.

Of course, this poses its own set of challenges that my campaign team is working hard to overcome. We are always looking for new opportunities to reach District 4.

Don’t be surprised if you see me or my team knocking on your door or at your local community meetings. Don’t be shy, come say hi!

  • I am aware that every freedom and privilege I was given in this world was hard won, often by people who met terrible ends. At CSAS they taught us to be lifelong learners, and that is something I constantly remind myself to do.

Racism is real and the systems that perpetuate it must be dismantled if we are ever to live in a world without poverty. When any person is denied their full humanity, all people are denied.

I have primarily focused on environmental justice in the past because I believe the environment that oppressed communities live in was/is made to be unhealthy. These environments act as a visual indicator of oppression. It is also incredibly expensive to everyone except the very few people who profit (often outside of the community).

I believe that urban forestry, food sovereignty, and indigenous methods for water management are powerful tools that compound to empower communities to not only improve their visual surroundings, but also greatly improve public health, safety, innovation, investment, and political power.

I believe that EVERYONE should have access to the education that their taxes pay for. (As a reminder, undocumented immigrants contribute significantly to the taxes that pay for education.)

I also believe that higher education should be a benefit to all who live here. While I paid for my education and have no debt from university—it was stressful. I believe that investing in education is the single greatest return a taxpayer can have.

I do not like wasting money. I believe that taxpayers should see returns on their taxes. They should be able to experience the benefits of their tax dollars. Y’all are the bosses.
